“For my bubble gum jacket performance, my new challenge is to expose an invisible relationship between people within everyday life, and through audience participation, I would like to bring people’s lives closer to art.
Placing chewed gum inside of a jacket is an absurd alteration of an ordinary action and this extraordinariness is a special experience that art can offer.
In my previous bubble gum jacket projects, these alterations have been carried out only by the artists, and there has been no participation from the audience. This time, however, I would like to encourage the audience to take part in the alteration of everyday objects and allow the invisible everydayness to take shapes.
The result of the audience’s participation in creating colours and shapes from the gum stuck inside jackets is anticipated to become something like an abstract painting. The patterns created by the gum will be perceived differently by different people and this will reveal the various relationships between the participants in the light of the various responses arising from their creation.
The difference in interpretation between various participants is expected, because I believe that the participants will use their own experiences and ideas of beauty in their interpretation. This leads me to the idea that the abstract colours and shapes correspond to people’s relationship in a social situation, thus, allowing personal relationships that we cannot see within everyday life into something that we can see.
In other words, I aim to explore the abstract personal relationship in everyday life through my performance, through the abstract colours and shapes inside the jacket.”
